We will be staying in Jaco next week and are very interested in doing this hike, but are a bit concerned about safety - in regards to rain, mosquitos, and if there are any other dangers. Is Costa Rica similar to Florida and Panama, where you know it is going to rain every afternoon and you just have to do your activity early ... or is it more unpredictable? All the weather apps just show rain every day. Also, how are the mosquitos in July ... is it safe to just wear regular shorts and t-shirts if you have mosquito repellant on? Besides taking water and snacks, any there other safety aspects to consider? Thanks in advance for any tips you may have!

We were there a few days ago. We were wearing shorts and mosquito repellant and and it was fine. I would try to go early in the morning primarily because it gets quite hot towards noon. If it rains it can get slippery and hence more difficult in the steep parts. But it is mainly close to the waterfall where it is steeper. We have been here over two weeks and so far we have had rain in the morning only once. Enjoy your holiday!
