This was the last of three Dzongs that we visited in Bhutan and, while impressive, for us it paled in comparison to the one in Punakha. Its setting is of course strategic, with a good view of the va…Full review by EC13091

I see in various posts that it is closed for maintenance. Would like to know whether the maintenance is completed. If not when it is expected to complete.

Hi You are correct to say that there are no direct flights from Islamabad to Paro, Bhutan. Paro is Bhutan's international airport. You will need to take a connecting flight into Paro. You can either go via Delhi ( return around 600 usd) You can take the cheaper option through Kathmandu or Dhaka. Singapore and Bangkok will be more expensive. I took the Dhaka Bangladesh to Paro then to Kathmandu Nepal and the two flights with Druk Air costed me around 450 usd. Think about the cheapest connection You do not need to worry about booking a ticket since to enter Bhutan, you MUST have your trip pre-arranged by a local tour operator. They will handle all the visa application, transportation, flight and itinerary. Since you will be traveling alone, it will cost you around 250 usd + surplus where 65 usd goes to the development of the country and the rest covering your trip and for the tourism board. How to get visa- find local tour operator. I went with BhutanDorji- a great friend whose English speaking staff took me around Bhutan doing what I want to do. His name is Mr Chambula Dorji . bhutandorji I would not hesitate to go with him again. I signed up for the trip. Gave him a list of things I want to do and see then he came back with the cost and was super nice when I ran into bank transfer issue so I paid him once I arrived and all was set- everything was taken care of. It is family run and hence more unique. Do contact him and just tell him that Wendy suggested so that you will be better looked after. PS: I am recommending him because after comparing 5 companies, his one ended up being the most responsive and the cheapest. I ended up paying 220 usd per day since I went in low season- DECEMBER! So I highly recommend you to visit Bhutan whilst you are in Asia and of course go in low season if you can. So good luck, contact him then off you go Im getting excited just talking about this. If you want to read up abut my Bhutan trip visit my blog Once you have settled everything and gave him a copy of your passport, he will reply by sending you a visa page and confirmation from the Ministry of Immigration Bhutan - print this out and show it along with your passport at Paro airport ( a pretty airport) then get a stamp and it's kuzuzangpola (hello) bhutan!
