Jacob Lopez became the latest pitcher to shut down the Royals with six innings of three-hit ball, Max Muncy and Lawrence Butler hit homers, and the Athletics beat struggling Kansas City 4-0 on Saturday.

The Royals jumped on Severino early, with a base hit by Maikel Garcia, who then stole second; a walk to Vinnie Pasquantino and then an RBI double by Salvador Perez. Perez’ double drove in Garcia to give KC a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, Austin Wynns homered to left field to tie the game at one each.

Nothing came of the scoring chance. Pasquantino flew out to end the potential threat. The A’s (28-44) earned a 4-0 victory and a series win. The Royals have lost five straight games, all at home. It was the latest entry in the Royals’ 2025 story. The club has been haunted by missed opportunities and it’s affecting the entire lineup.
