Firefighters are nearing victory in the battles against three major wildfires near Los Angeles that have burned more than 117,000 acres, destroyed nearly 200 structures and injured 23 people, officials said.

Three massive wildfires are burning all over Southern California, destroying acres of land and buildings, as well as injuring multiple people. All three fires began in early September, as an unexpected heat wave raised temperatures to record highs for the month.

Los Angeles Central Library 630 W. 5th St., Downtown L.A. This free event kicks off Banned Books Week and will explore how banning measures prohibit essential learning. A cast of actors will highlight historical and current lists of banned books, and there will be music too. This event will also be streamed online.

A system bringing the chance of rain and thunderstorms across Southern California has cooled down the region. Snow is expected in parts of the Sierras.
