Boogie boards, sheet pans, cardboard boxes and pool floaties — for the children of Ghent, just about any flat surface became a sled on Wednesday morning.

The winter storm moving across the United States, bringing frigid temperatures to the East Coast, is causing some delays and cancellations in Hampton Roads. A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina from 5 p.

Here’s a look at some of the snow reports from the region, as reported by the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

Bitter cold is to be expected for the rest of the week, as well. Daily highs will be in the 20s through Wednesday, with early morning lows in the single digits to mid-teens.

Hampton Roads could get another round of winter weather this weekend and next week, thanks to another storm system moving across the South.
