While many in Michigan have celebrated New Year's — and maybe even already have given up on their resolutions — a number of communities throughout the state are getting ready to ring in the Lunar New Year later this month.

Get ready to celebrate. The Lunar New Year is just around the corner. The holiday, which marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring, begins on Jan. 29 and runs through Feb. 12. According to Chinese astrology, this is the Year of the Wood Snake. People born under this sign are considered to be cautious, mysterious, charming and wise.

Palace Station, Green Valley Ranch, Durango Casino & Resort, and Red Rock Casino will welcome the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake with traditional lion dances and festive décor. Palace Station: Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. Green Valley Ranch: Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Red Rock Casino: Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.

When Lunar New Year kicks off on Jan. 29, events will be held throughout San Diego to mark the year of the snake in the Chinese and Vietnamese zodiac calendars.
