Mayor LaToya Cantrell is now the second New Orleans mayor to face criminal charges, after a federal indictment landed Friday, and the first to do so while in office.

Officials allege she defrauded the city while trying to keep hidden her relationship with a police officer assigned to protect her.

Cantrell, who is slated to leave office in disgrace in approximately five months due to term limits, was once celebrated as the city's first Black female mayor
