The extent of Thursday’s flooding has been so shocking to people across the city that some people are comparing it to the historic and catastrophic 1998 floods in San Antonio.

The abrupt closure comes after the city experienced record-breaking rainfall in the morning hours on Thursday. Between 3 and 8 inches of rain occurred in Bexar County, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy rains blanketed the region, causing power outages, high-water rescues and at least four fatalities.

With heavy rain pouring in overnight and throughout Thursday afternoon, Bexar County, the City of Live Oak, the City of Converse announced park closures due to weather and flooding.

Multiple people are dead and more are missing amid widespread flooding in a major city in Texas. At least four people have died and two are reported as missing amid the flooding in San Antonio on Thursday. The San Antonio Fire Department says that it rescued 10 people on Thursday alone, and that four people needed immediate medical attention.
