Senator Joe Gruters of Sarasota County filed a bill this week that, if passed, would change the name of the 284-mile Tamiami Trail highway to the "Gulf of America Trail."

A Florida senator has filed a bill to change a stretch of U.S. Highway 41 known as the Tamiami Trail to the "Gulf of America Trail."

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it will implement a "Gulf of America" name change to all of its Commission materials.

Florida politicians are rallying around the Gulf of America name change. Efforts include a plan to rename a major Florida highway.
