A low pressure system developed into Tropical Storm Dexter over the western Atlantic late on Aug. 3, forecasters said.

Dexter has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph with a minimum central pressure of 1002. The NHC said Dexter is expected to stay in the Atlantic as a tropical storm and weaken to a post-tropical cyclone by Wednesday. The NHC is monitoring additional areas of interest in the Atlantic.

A tropical storm is churning in the western Atlantic Ocean, but forecasters say it is expected to move away from the U.S. coast and stay north of Bermuda.
