From pH 7 to 0 the soil is increasingly more acidic and from pH 7 to 14 the soil is increasingly more alkaline or basic. Soil pH provides various clues about soil properties and is easily determined.

Small changes in pH reflect significant shifts in acidity or alkalinity due to the exponential nature of the scale.

If the pH registers higher than 7.5, the soil is considered alkaline. Less than 7 on the pH scale means you have acidic soil.
