Amazon has started the year with a series of layoffs across different parts of the company as it continues to trim its workforce and streamline operations.

Amazon.com Inc. is laying off dozens of people in its communications department, the latest culling of the corporate workforce amid executives’ efforts to cut costs and reduce bureaucracy.
