A winter storm is moving out of the San Diego area Friday but brought much-needed rainfall and gusty winds that led to some flooding and downed trees. As of late morning, the most powerful storm of the season had dropped anywhere from a tenth of an inch to nearly three inches of rain across the county over its three-day stay over the region.

The region was getting drenched Thursday by an atmospheric river — a column of moisture out of the west that flowed into north coastal San Diego County just after 5 p.m. and was expected to spread

For San Diego County, rainfall is expected to range from 0.75 to 1.25 inch near the coast to 2 to 3 inches in the mountains through Friday.

An updated flash flood warning was issued by the NWS San Diego CA on Thursday at 7:40 p.m. in effect until 8:45 p.m. for San Bernardino County.

A flood watch is in effect until Thursday along the San Diego County coast, including San Diego, Carlsbad, Poway and Chula Vista.

Wednesday's rain will be gentle and relatively light, but on Thursday and Thursday night, heavier precipitation will spread southeastward across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to bring about 2 inches of rain to northern and southern parts of the county between Wednesday and Friday.

While some flood survivors have been able to return home, many others are still struggling to recover, rebuild their homes, or find new places to live. Some survivors, particularly renters like Calix, have been forced to restart life elsewhere, with little hope of returning to their old communities.

The peak of the latest storm passed through San Diego County Thursday night, bringing a period of heavy rainfall that caused flooding in some parts of the region.
