In the holiday season battle of big-budget family movies, Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” sped past the Walt Disney Co.’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” to take the top spot at the box office.

It's going to be a close race to crown a king of the Christmas box office, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King almost neck-and-neck as we head into the new
