As a storm was bearing down on the southern Plains, heavy snowfall was expected in the northern Plains and Great Lakes regions.

Owsley County suffered devastating damage when the South Fork of the Kentucky River reached major flood stage in Booneville, rising to just a few inches below the record.

They trap and slow rainwater in the first place – acting as a brake on flash flooding and allowing rainwater to find its natural path to the soil water table and flow into our rivers.
