A record-equalling century by Mitchell Owen and a three-wicket haul by skipper Nathan Ellis helped Hobart Hurricanes secure their maiden Big Bash League (BBL) title, beating Sydney Thunder in the final at Hobart by seven wickets on Monday.

Mitch Owen eventually got out after scoring 108 runs off 42 balls but he had ensured that Hurricanes would be lifting their maiden title.
