Federal immigration officials plan to open the first new immigrant detention center of President Donald Trump’s second term in Newark, New Jersey, officials said.

The center in Newark, just miles from Manhattan, is close to an international airport and is expected to have space for as many as 1,000 migrants.

A protest was planned this weekend at a former Dublin women's federal prison over a possible plan by the Trump administration to house immigration detainees at the facility.
