The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that a mass campaign to vaccinate children against polio in Gaza would resume on Saturday, with over half a million children targeted.

"Extensive population movement consequent to the current ceasefire is likely to exacerbate the spread of poliovirus infection," says WHO.

A mass polio vaccination campaign in children is set to continue in Gaza later this week after the virus was recently detected in wastewater samples.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have launched an emergency polio outbreak response in the Gaza Strip, with a mass vaccination campaign scheduled from 22 to 26 February 2025.
