Gov. Kathy Hochul declined to say on Monday whether Andrew Cuomo was fit to serve as mayor of New York City following the announcement of his bid for the office.

Cuomo talked about the need to build affordable housing and his record of building things, including extending the Second Avenue subway, constructing the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and updating the Moynihan Train Hall. Meanwhile, Gov. Kathy Hochul, who replaced Cuomo after his resignation, was non-committal about his entry into the race.

Hochul—who was Cuomo’s lieutenant governor before he resigned in 2021, and she assumed the governorship—appeared Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” where she was asked if Cuomo would make a good mayor.

Cuomo officially kicked off his bid for mayor Saturday, running to unseat Mayor Eric Adams in the Democratic primary.
