The New York Islanders have assigned forward Marc Gatcomb to the Bridgeport Islanders, it was announced Wednesday. Gatcomb, who was recalled on an emergency basis, made his NHL debut Tuesday versus Ottawa. Although he was held pointless, Gatcomb has collected nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 35 games with Bridgeport.

With a bug going around the Islanders dressing room, Jean-Gabriel Pageau had come down sick and the 25-year-old Gatcomb was in line to make his NHL debut. He used the 90-minute ride from Bridgeport to Long Island to call up his family and as many friends as he could, learning in the car that he would indeed be playing against the Senators.

The New York Islanders have recalled goaltender Jakub Skarek from the Bridgeport Islanders, it was announced Saturday. Skarek, a 2018 third round pick of the Islanders, has spent the entire season to date in the AHL, collecting a record of 4-10-1 to go along with a 3.29 GAA and a .891 SP in 17 appearances.

New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau was scratched prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators with an illness and is considered day-to-day, the team announced. In his place, the team emergency recalled Marc Gatcomb from AHL Bridgeport.

Hogberg, the organization’s third-string netminder — and backup since the start of December with Semyon Varlamov hurt — was called into action for just the second time after Ilya Sorokin fell ill and was unavailable for the match against Utah Hockey Club.
