Carole Keeton, Austin's first woman mayor and the state's first female comptroller, died Wednesday, March 26, at age 85.

An irrepressible campaigner, Keeton was the first woman to lead Austin and the first to become Texas' chief financial officer.

Carole Keeton, the first woman elected mayor in Austin and the first woman to be Texas comptroller, died this week. She was 85. Her son, Brad McClellan, told the Austin American-Statesman, she died around noon Wednesday.
