CalFire released a new map this week, expanding hazardous fire zones in Northern California. It's part of Governor Gavin Newsom's executive order after the Los Angeles fires. Updated for the first time since 2007,

Cal Fire's new maps show Auburn increased its very high severity zone acreage to 800 this year compared to 326 acres a decade ago.

In some areas, hazards have surged. Buildings in the highest hazard zones will be subject to the strictest fire-resiliency rules.

Approximately 1.4 million acres of land were added into the two highest fire hazard severity tiers on newly updated CAL FIRE maps.
