Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed two major bills into law on June 18, launching a landmark $20 billion investment aimed at tackling Texas' growing water shortages. Final funding approval for part of the plan will require voter consent in a November statewide ballot.

The plan would allot $1 billion dollars per year, starting in 2027, to fund both new infrastructure and repairs that aim to secure Texas' water supply.

After the credible threat at the Texas Capitol this weekend and the assassinations of a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband, Gov. Abbott said those things can never be allowed to happen in Texas.
