A driver plowed a car into a crowd at a street festival celebrating Filipino heritage in Vancouver on Saturday night, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens more in what police are calling “the darkest day” in the city’s history.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — A 30-year-old man was charged with multiple counts of murder in the deaths of 11 people who were killed when a car careened into a crowd at a Filipino heritage festival in Vancouver, and mourners including the Canadian prime minister remembered the dead at vigils across the city.

"We're all shaken up knowing that the people around us may not be alive," said a Seattle man who was at the Vancouver festival with his family the night of the car ramming attack.
