Popular map services such as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Bing Maps have all changed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in the U.S.

Google said people using Maps in the US will see "Gulf of America," people in Mexico will see "Gulf of Mexico," and everyone else will see both names.

The name change to Gulf of America is the first since the 1540s where various maps referred to it as the Mexican Gulf, Golpho de la Nueva España, and, finally Gulf of Mexico.
