Dame Judi Dench always has someone with her when she is in public now for a reason. During a conversation on the “Fearless” podcast with Trinny Woodall, the esteemed actress was asked about attending industry events.

The veteran English actress said that she now needed to attend public events with someone else, because of her worsening macular degeneration.

Judi Dench opened up about losing her vision to macular degeneration, revealing that she doesn’t go out by herself anymore as to not “walk into something or fall over,” according to People. On an episode of Trinny Woodall’s Fearless podcast,

John, 77, revealed he was recovering from a “severe eye infection” in September 2024 that left him with “limited vision in one eye.” That November, he told Good Morning America he “can’t see anything” in his right eye as a result of the illness.

While there is no cure for age related macular degeneration, it can be slowed down with regular eye exams and checkups. As for Judi Dench, the actor now finds it difficult to read her scripts and memorise her lines.
