Residents are taking safety into their own hands, and local leaders are working to shelter homeless individuals during the extreme weather combo.

Texas is in line to experience sub-freezing temperatures for the first time in nearly a year, but just before the cold may come another round of tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) said Friday night that eastern parts of Harris County and much of East Texas is in line for possible severe weather along with the dipping temperatures.

People in North Texas rushed to hardware stores and grocery stores to get ready for this week's freezing weather.
