Airband-specific antennas for a casual scanner user: worth it?

Unlike most radio systems, the radio equipment at the airport tends to be optimized for aircraft and isn't really intended to be heard by non-aircraft stations, especially those some distance from the airport.

In the 25 kHz channel spacing scheme, an upper audio frequency of 12.5 kHz would be theoretically possible.

Mar 24, 2017 · element VHF airband yagi that worked quite well for me. You can order a bracket for it to mast mount it. Currently I'm using a 7.5' long 10 element VHF airband yagi from InnovAntennas. It's mounted 35' up, below it is a UHF airband log periodic yagi. I use band pass filters, FM traps, pre-amps, lighting protection etc. and LMR-400 coax on both.
