How about a little good news? Two of our spotted eagle rays, Sadana and Muskali, are pregnant! Sadana is carrying two pups and Muskali is carrying one pup. We have not had ray pups of any species at the Virginia Aquarium in many years, and spotted eagle ray pups have been born in less than ten aquariums across the world. We're thrilled to announce the birth of two female spotted eagle rays at our facility! Our female ray Sadana gave birth to the pups in January, and our animal care and vet teams are providing them with additional nutritional support as they get better at eating on their own. Newborn spotted eagle rays do not require parental care and are self-sufficient at birth. Sadana is doing well and can be spotted by guests in the Aquarium’s Red Sea exhibit.
