Standing 115 feet tall on the Mendocino coast, Point Arena Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. It was constructed to warn sailors of the dangerous Arena Rock, which has caused over 100 shipwrecks. Visitors can climb 145 steps for breathtaking views of the ocean or even stay overnight in the historic keeper’s quarters. The historic Point Arena Lighthouse towers 115' above the shores of the Pacific Ocean, south of Fort Bragg along Highway 1. Built in September, 1908 just a couple years after the San Francisco earthquake destroyed the old lighthouse. You can climb the stairs to the top and take in the views, or fog on this day.
